Can starvation give you a longer life? Weird question but I’ll explain how to live longer by not eating. A version of starvation can actually give you a longer life. When you don’t eat as often, you live longer.

Not eating, or fasting, stimulates something very interesting. Fasting stimulates certain genes that help you survive and repair, especially sirtuins, which are anti-aging genes. Sirtuins can repair breaks in your DNA.

They lower oxidative stress, and increase your resistance to stress. They decrease inflammation, and help you make new mitochondria, which are the cells’ energy factories.

Sirtuins can also decrease free radical damage. Other things that can reduce oxidative stress is beta hydroxybutyrate, a type of ketone. So ketosis and intermittent fasting together can really help you decrease oxidative stress and help you live longer.

As well, resveratrol is the phytonutrient in red wine that has been shown to increase the lifespan of yeast and fish.

Studies on mice given resveratrol on a high-fat diet showed improvements in insulin sensitivity. This is promising, although it has yet to be shown as beneficial in humans. I don’t recommend a resveratrol supplement right now. I’d rather have you focus on your foods, and combine healthy ketosis with intermittent fasting.
